Summer is here and we’re all looking for ways to cool down as the temperatures are rising. But pumping the air conditioner is not only expensive, but it also puts strain on your equipment. So here are a few tips to help you stay cool and give your A/C a break.
- Close Blinds & CurtainsWhen the sun comes streaming through your windows, it’s also heating your home. Closing your curtains creates a barrier against this radiant heat. Because most of the heat from outside comes in through your windows, keeping your curtains and blinds closed can significantly reduce the temperature in the room.
- Cool Your Body Temperature Instead of The House
Summer is here and we’re all looking for ways to cool down as the temperatures are rising. But pumping the air conditioner is not only expensive, but it also puts strain on your equipment. So here are a few tips to help you stay cool and give your A/C a break. - Ditch the Stove or Oven
This one’s pretty obvious, but we’re going to say it anyway. Cranking your oven up to 400 degrees when your house already feels hot will only make it hotter. Try pulling out the slow cooker to keep the house cool–or opt for more fresh fruit and vegetable dishes instead of cooked or baked ones. You could also fire up the grill and enjoy more time eating outdoors this summer. - Switch Out The Sheets
Change those heavy comforters, blankets, and flannel sheets for lighter fabrics that don’t keep you so warm. Cotton sheets can help you feel cooler at night. - Open a Window
Take advantage of the fact that it is still cool in the mornings and evenings. Open a window to help draw some of that cool air in at night. - Use a Fan
Anything you can do to get a breeze blowing through the house will help it feel cooler. Whether it’s a ceiling fan, desk fan, or box fan, get the air moving to help stay cool.
